1. What Seen From Many is, and what it is not

Seen From Many is a structured personal development exercise. It invites people you choose to share their impressions of you, and it organizes their responses into a written summary for your private reflection.

Seen From Many is not psychotherapy, counseling, psychological assessment, diagnosis, treatment, or any other form of psychological or health care service. Nothing on this website, in its emails, or in its reports constitutes psychological, medical, legal, or other professional advice. The impressions gathered here are the personal opinions of the people you invite. They are not clinical findings, and the report is not a psychological test or evaluation of any kind.

Seen From Many, offered as the Belser Social Reflection Practice, is an independent project. It credits its inspirations, including the Johari Window, Appreciative Inquiry, the tradition of 360-degree feedback, and the Reflected Best Self Exercise, and it is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by the University of Michigan, the Center for Positive Organizations, or any other institution or author named on this site.

2. No professional relationship is created

Seen From Many was created by Dr. Alex Belser, a licensed psychologist and clinical scientist. In creating and offering this website, Dr. Belser acts solely as its author and developer, and not as a psychologist providing services to you. Your use of Seen From Many does not create a psychologist-patient, therapist-client, or any other professional or fiduciary relationship between you and Dr. Belser or anyone else involved in this project. No communication through this website or its emails is confidential in the sense that communications with your own treating clinician are, and none of it should be relied upon as professional care.

3. Emotional risk, suitability, and your responsibilities

Receiving candid feedback from people in your life can stir strong feelings, including painful ones. By using Seen From Many you acknowledge this risk, and you agree that you are choosing to participate voluntarily and at your own discretion. Seen From Many is intended for adults who are eighteen years of age or older.

Seen From Many is not appropriate for everyone or for every season of life. If you are in acute distress, in crisis, experiencing suicidal thoughts, or in a period of significant psychological fragility, please do not use this service now, and please reach out to a licensed professional or a crisis resource instead. If difficult feelings arise during the process, you are encouraged to pause, to lean on your confidante and other supports, and to consult a licensed mental health professional in your area. You are responsible for deciding whom to invite, for the accuracy of the information you provide, and for how you use what you receive. If you invite others to participate, you agree to do so honestly and without pressure, and you acknowledge that their responses are their own personal opinions.

During setup you are asked to confirm several things by checkbox: among them, that this is a steady enough season of your life for this practice, that you have people around you, that you are choosing this for your own growth, and that the people you invite are people you trust to be honest with care. These confirmations are your own representations. They are not verified, and they are relied upon in good faith in offering you the service.

4. Support People and confidantes

Every circle requires at least one named Support Person: someone you identify who is notified by email when your circle launches and again when your report opens. A Support Person does not receive access to your report. Naming a Support Person is a condition of using the service, and by naming one you represent that they have agreed to be contacted for this purpose.

A confidante is optional. If you appoint one, they receive the same access to your finished report that you have. You are responsible for choosing Support People and confidantes you trust, and for the consequences of sharing your report with anyone. Neither role creates any duty of care on the part of Seen From Many or its author, and neither role makes the person you name responsible for your wellbeing.

5. An automated service: no monitoring, and automated notices

Seen From Many is an automated service. No person reads, reviews, or monitors what you or your Reflectors write, and the service does not screen, assess, or evaluate any user's mental state, safety, or fitness to participate. If certain words appear in what you type during setup, the site may automatically display a notice with crisis-support information. That notice is triggered by keywords alone: it is generated by software, it is not read by a person, it is not a judgment or assessment of you, and it does not mean that anyone has been alerted. Please do not use this website to communicate distress or to seek help. It is not monitored and cannot respond. If you need support, please contact the resources listed on the Support & Resources page or a licensed professional in your area.

6. A note about your therapist

If you are in therapy, please do not invite your therapist to be one of your Reflectors. Inviting a treating clinician into this exercise blurs the boundaries of the therapy relationship and may place your therapist in a position their professional ethics do not permit. What you can do instead, and what I warmly encourage, is bring your finished report to a therapy session and reflect on it together, if your therapist agrees that this would be useful. Please ask your therapist about this before your report arrives.

7. Privacy and anonymity

The anonymity of Reflectors is taken seriously. Responses are stored without a link to the Reflector's identity and are presented without names or attribution of any kind, in the writer's own words, gathered question by question in random order. At the same time, this is a prototype service offered without charge, and while reasonable efforts are made to protect the information you share, the security, availability, and permanence of data cannot be guaranteed. Please do not submit information you cannot afford to have lost or disclosed, and please do not submit sensitive information about third parties. Anonymity also has practical limits: a Reflector who describes a moment only they could know may be recognizable from their words alone. Reflectors should write with this in mind.

8. No warranties

Seen From Many is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. There is no warranty that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that any report will be complete, accurate, or beneficial to you.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Dr. Alex Belser and anyone else involved in creating, maintaining, or offering Seen From Many shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages, including emotional distress, arising out of or relating to your use of, or inability to use, this service, its emails, or its reports, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. Where a jurisdiction does not allow certain limitations, liability shall be limited to the greatest extent that jurisdiction permits.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Dr. Alex Belser and anyone else involved in creating, maintaining, or offering Seen From Many from and against any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of your use of the service, your violation of these terms, or your violation of any rights of another person, including the people you invite.

11. Governing law, changes, and contact

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to conflict of law principles. These terms may be updated from time to time, and continued use of the service after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
